Step inside the wonderfully warm and rave inducing world of Pretty Girl. Ranging in influences from hypnotic house, dreamy pop and speaker blasting moments from the club - the Naarm-based DJ, producer and vocalist has been making major waves in Australia's dance community, and across the UK. Her music has been described as a warm hug, or stepping into the sun for the very first time - euphoric, vibrant and easy to get lost in.
“Everything I do is a pinch me moment” she says to me as we get into our quickfire interview, and when you look at what’s happened since emerging onto the scene in 2019, you’d agree. Snapping up the support act slot for Fred again.. and Bonobo. More recently, she left a lasting impression with her glimmering set for Boiler Room Melbourne in front of 6000 people (plus the millions online), and is selling out shows across Australia.
Adding another irresistible club track to her catalogue, Pretty Girl has excitedly released ‘All Away’, the first single from her next EP. On the single, she shared, “so excited to share the new music that came out of me last year, it was a crazy year and it made some pretty crazy music”. Already becoming a fan favourite, she started working on ‘All Away’ just before she left home to do her first international tour, “I felt like I was on the precipice of my life changing for so many reasons” she states, “which I think invited the tone of the song - it’s kind of desperate/hanging on/charged with emotional energy and momentum”.
We were fortunate enough to catch up with Pretty Girl at Laneway in Tāmaki Makaurau, and sent some quickfire questions her way to find out if she has a party trick, her biggest pinch me moment so far, and the craziest song she’s ever flipped.

Something with lavender flavour… a lavender martini?

Energy. Community. Synergy!
Do you have a prized possession?
Oh I have so many! I’ve got a pair of earrings my dad bought me in Italy when I was a little kid. They’re very special to me.
Biggest pinch me moment so far?
There’s been so fucking many! When I walked on stage at Pitch festival in Australia last year, that was a huge pinch me moment because the crowd was enormous. I was genuinely floored. I have moments every day, even small things like signing a contract or getting on a plane… everything I do is a pinch me moment.
If you had the ability to travel back in time and see any concert, in any era - where would you go?
Hmmm... Not specifically a concert, but I’d love to go to the raves in Melbourne in the 80s and 90s! I’ve heard so much about them, but I wasn’t around.
Craziest song you've ever flipped?
I made an edit of Brian Eno’s Music For Airports, that first track… I’ve made some other stupid ones as well. This is so dumb! So, with a friend we got the sound of an F1 drive by, and we put it into the melody of Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter.
Do you have any party tricks?
I can do the splits! I used to do gymnastics so there’s a lot that came from that, I’ve nearly been injured so many times because I would just be like “everyone needs to see this right now!”
